The Thematic Research Project " Collect, identify, describe, exhibit. The curatorial cycle and the production of knowledge", developed at the University of São Paulo (members: Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Zoology, Paulista Museum, Museum of Archeology and Ethnology  and  Institute of Physics, besides the University of Campinas - UNICAMP), financed by FAPESP – São Paulo Research Foundation, offers one postdoctoral fellowship for a candidate with outstanding research experience.

The research will be developed at the Museum of Contemporary Art of University of São Paulo, Avenida Pedro Álvares Cabral, 1301, São Paulo, Brazil.

Summary

Within this research project, the candidate should propose a study topic based on the MAC USP's modernist collection. The aims of the research will be developed around the curatorial cycle within the Museum, in one or more the  proposed axes of the thematic project (collect, identify, process and diffuse), according to its areas of research: History and Art Criticism.

The possibility of developing a postdoctoral research project in this thematic project is of fundamental importance, because it will enable the Museum to embrace specialties and knowledge that may not be included in the framework of the main and associated researchers. In addition, we will have the possibility of seeing the production of scientific articles and other genres of publication from the work with the collections studied here.

 

Mandatory prerequisites:

PhD degree in the area related to the project, obtained less than seven years ago; Availability to start immediately; The selected candidate must live in São Paulo (SP, Brazil) and dedicate him/herself exclusively to the research.

 

Desired qualities:

•     Previous experience in research in the area of Arts with specialization history and art criticism;

Preference for previous experience with collections of modern and contemporary art museums; Excellent oral and written communication skills in Portuguese; The candidate must have previous publications in the area and international experience.

Activities to be developed:

Development of original research project on the collections and issues contemplated within the thematic project; Bibliographic survey; Documentary Research; Develop annual reports required by FAPESP; Write scientific papers; Dissemination of results obtained in scientific events; Participate in regular group meetings;

- Cover letter (until 2 page) indicating the interest in the scholarship and with a brief report of their experience in the area related to the project.

 

The deadline for submissions is July 14th, 2019. Entries will be considered in which all documents (including letters of recommendation) were received by 11:59 pm on July 14th, 2019 (UTC3, Brasilia)

 

The evaluation of applications for the postdoc fellowship will consider the following aspects:

Candidate’s research history;

Analysis of the letters of recommendation; Regarding the curricular analysis, the number of publications of the candidate will not be the only consideration, but also their quality and relevance; In addition, applicants might be summoned for an in-person or online interview with the supervisor to evaluate the candidate’s areas of expertise in the research topics related to the project.

 

This position is opened to Brazilians and foreigners.

The implementation of the fellowship is conditional to the approval of the selected candidate by FAPESP. If the decision is endorsed by FAPESP, the selected candidate will receive the amount of R$ 7,373,10.80 per month. There is a technical reserve equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the amount received and is intended to meet unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity of the thematic project. If the PD grant holder resides in a different address and needs to move to the city where the research institution is located, he / she may be entitled to a grant-installation.

The validity of this postdoc selection process is for 6 months and if the first candidate selected does not assume the position the second candidate can be nominated.
