Senior Academic Position: Head Curator for The Genia Schreiber Tel Aviv University Art Gallery and Director of the University Curatorial Studies Programs

 

The Faculty of Arts at Tel Aviv University calls for applicants for a tenure-track position of Head Curator for the Genia Schreiber Tel Aviv University Art Gallery & Director of the Museology and Curatorial Studies programs.  The appointed candidate will be required to direct, develop and curate the exhibitions program for the University Gallery and to direct the gallery Museology and Curatorial Studies programs at Tel Aviv University. Work on exhibitions will be carried out in collaboration with students, while incorporating curatorial practice and research.

 

The position is open to candidates holding a PhD in the field of Art History or any related field. In addition to curatorial background, the candidate should possess proven research ability, and provide a list of academic publications.

 

Prior work experience in curatorial or museology practice in local or international institutions is mandatory.   Preference will be given to candidates with experience in management, setting up academic study programs, and cultural projects between several institutions.

 

The candidate must possess the ability to fundraise funds from private and public institutions/bodies, and to approach local and international granting agencies for permanent, or temporary sponsorship.

 

The position includes teaching practical and theoretical BA and MA courses in the fields of Curatorial Studies, Modern and Contemporary Arts.  Prior experience in teaching in academic institutions is required, along with an ability to teach in Hebrew and in English.

 

The academic level and career track will be determined according to the candidate’s skills and experience. The appointment process will be carried out in accordance with the university protocol, and subject to approval from the authorized academic institutions.

 

The University reserves the right not to appoint any of the applicants.

 

A letter of application, curriculum vitae (including previous curatorial and museology experience), along with a short, tentative proposal for a long-term exhibition program for the University Gallery, and a list of publications, need to be sent to the address below.  In addition, the applicant needs to provide at least two letters of reference from senior researchers at institutions of higher learning, and two references from senior managers and curators at public or private institutions in which the applicant has worked in the past.
